Will +Huddle from Google+ replace SMS

By Liz

Google+-HuddleThe telecom service providers have been under the fire from free SMS services that +Huddle aims to offer. The end users who sign up for Google+ will be able to use the +Huddle utility for sending free group messages to their friends on the go. Within few clicks the end users will be able to send bulk messages at the blink of their eye. And what’s even best is that it will be for free of cost. The users who are waiting for Google+ invite need to wait more as Google has stopped the beta version of the service. They need to wait till the service is made available in the full mode.

SMS services are charged at higher rates and especially special (and even higher) rates apply for sending International SMS’. In case your friends or family members are settled abroad then it might leave hole in the pocket. With Google’s solution the end users will be able to send any number of messages across the globe for free! The move from Google might throw service providers out of the business if they don’t innovate. The end users should act methodically while leveraging from the solution initially and ideally wait for initial reviews from the early adopters.

The solution from Google+ has already given heads-on competition to the SMS service providers. The adoption level amongst the tech geeks and value centric consumers will be faster than the apprehensive customers. However, it might take a time scale of at least 5 years for +Huddle to completely replace SMS. These are also facing threat from iOS 5’s iMessage feature that will allow end users in sending free messages to iOS users. The SMS era is soon to hit the history books and telecom service providers must redefine their solution for being more competitive in the market.
